A commemoration was held on 28 June 2016 in the UK Parliament to celebrate a centenary of the “Kossovo Day 1916 in Britain”. The event “Vidovdan 2016: Commemoration of the Centenary of the ‘Kossovo Day’ 1916 in Britain”, was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London and the association “Serbian Council in Great Britain”.

Chairman of All-party parliamentary group for Serbia in UK Parliament, Stuart Andrew made an introductory statement pointing out that the celebration of Vidovdan today the same as a hundred years ago, testified to the closeness between the two peoples and contributed to their further advancement. Ambassador Ognjen Pribicevic expressed gratitude to the All-party parliamentary group for Serbia for its support to this event as well as to Mrs. Jenny Blake for her lecture which highlighted probably the brightest historical moment in the Serbian-British relations, which took place exactly one hundred years ago. He went on to emphasize Serbia’s genuine efforts to continue to develop the best possible relations with the UK. Jenny Blake, a pensioner from Southampton, developed an interest in Serbia, its history and ties with Great Britain following her first humanitarian visit to Serbia in 2007. Having read many books, mostly historic one, from the period of the Great War in particular, Jenny focused her research on this intriguing story of celebration of Vidovdan in Britain 1916.
