At the invitation of the British side, bilateral consultations were held in London by the Foreign and Defense Ministries of the two countries in the field of security and defense policy (Strategic Dialogue). The RS delegation was led by H.E. Branimir Filipović, Acting Assistant Foreign Minister for Security Policy, and Mr. Milan Ranković, Acting Assistant Minister for Defense Policy, and the British side was headed by Mr. Andrew Page, Director of the Western Balkans Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and Mr. Nicholas Gurr, Director of International Security Policy at the British Ministry of Defense. The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the UK Aleksandra Joksimović and the British Ambassador in Belgrade Sian MacLeod also participated in the consultations while Mr. Angus Lapsley, Director General Strategy and International in the UK MoD and Mr. Giles Portman, Director for EU at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office took part in a segment of the dialogue.
In a constructive atmosphere, opinions were exchanged on a wide range of topics of common interest, with a focus on the potential for further enhancement of bilateral relations, defense co-operation, environmental protection and support to the Republic of Serbia in the EU integration process. Particular attention was paid to the situation in the Western Balkans region, deeper regional integration initiatives, and the Belgrade - Pristina dialogue. The hosts briefed on Britain’s foreign policy priorities after Brexit, as well as preparations for the UN Climate Change Summit (COP26) to be held in Glasgow in November 2020.
