8 February 2022

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic assessed today, in a meeting with Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom for the Western Balkans Stuart Peach, that cooperation in the region and all partners contributing to that cooperation is Serbia's strategic commitment to achieving stability, economic progress and prosperity in the Western Balkans.

Brnabic said that membership in the European Union and a stable, economically strong and well-connected region are Serbia's priorities.

She stated that with good economic results and stability achieved by reforms, with continuous investment in infrastructure projects and attracting foreign investments, Serbia has shown that it is on the right track, but that building trust and stronger connections through regional projects is the way to a prosperous and strong region in the European Union.

The Prime Minister also recognised the great opportunities for cooperation in the Western Balkans in the implementation of the Green Agenda and the development of investments that will enable a green transition in the region.

Also, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the British government, which supported the reform process in Serbia with projects such as digital transformation and strengthening e-Government, financed through the Fund for Good Governance.

She assessed that the reform of education is one of the priorities of the government of Serbia and underlined the importance of the three-year programme "Schools for the 21st Century" implemented by the British Council, thanks to the investments of the British government.

Brnabic assessed that this project is one of the key ones for the future of our children and an excellent example of how the ties between the two countries are strengthened through digitalisation.

Peach emphasised that the British government is committed to the progress of the Western Balkans and support for the European integration of the region, which, as he explained, would enable the creation of a more prosperous environment for the survival of young and future generations.
